Suitable for all ages. With friends, family or in a group: experience the mines with an expert guide by your side and learn how minerals – such as iron – were extracted.

Our Nature and Walking guides will lead you to the discovery of the main mining sites of Rio Marina and Rio Albano, retracing the track of the mine railway, throughout lunar landscapes, wild and rugged views and minerals remains.

All the itineraries are designed to capture every single aspect of the mining world on the Island and the close connection between man and minerals.

Along the way, our expert guides will tell you about miner’s life, the different mining techniques used throughout history and they will introduce you to the different mineralogical species.

Enjoy the visit to the open-cast mining areas comfortably seated aboard our train.

Along the way, you will have the occasion to observe some historic buildings and equipment used for mining activities and to collect your own pyrite and hematite samples.

Jump aboard a real military vehicle for an incredible off-road adventure searching for the most famous minerals of the island!

A journey throughout an extraordinary landscape, in a riot of perfumes and colours of the minerals and the Mediterranean scrub.

Moreover, once arrived at the foot of Monte Giove, you will have the occasion to collect your very own pyrite and hematite samples.

This is a small group tour limited to just 8 people, for a rewarding experience.

Organized groups

A walk in the path of miners throughout the amazing landscape of the Mediterranean scrub.

Our expert guide will take you on a journey in the heart of the mines, full of history, nature, colours and perfumes.

You will walk through the historic mining sites, from Cantiere Bacino, the red coloured Cantiere delle Conche – the mine’s northernmost site -, to the majestic site of Valle Giove (Jupiter’s Valley), a huge amphitheatre created by mining activities during the centuries.

You will be surprised by the huge variety of iron ores, the many shades of colours of the hematite, the perfect faces of the fool’s gold and the very rich biodiversity of this area.

Let’s practice identifying rocks and collect your own samples of hematite, pyrite, goethite and quartz!

Participants will learn the importance of knowing how to identify minerals, their physical properties, and uses. We will review what a mineral is and common properties of minerals (colour, streak, transparency, smell) and use these properties to identify a group of minerals.
